New Ways Of Networking

How do you get new clients? Do you work from referrals? When was the last time you attended a local networking event, and made contact with people that brought you in business?

Try attending a new event this month. There are so many different types of networking events, things you may have never thought of, or even heard of before, but can open your mind to new ideas.

Begin by going to the Biz Journals website. This is the parent company of 42 city business journal newspapers. From here you can link up to your city and find many different networking groups around town.

Don’t just limit yourself to your local chamber, or industry related association meetings. Instead try something new.

I recently attended a local event, DaVinci Institute, that provides interesting and relevant information to entrepreneurs. It’s a wonderful place for new ideas to sprout, and to meet people that can offer you advice on things you’ve never even dreamed of.

When you’re ready to take your business to a whole different level, and to learn more about capital and funding your business ideas, check out IBI Global. They have chapters in many different cities, and are a very interesting mix of people and business opportunities. Our local meeting can sometimes be attended by up to 100 people.

While the term "networking" instantly makes you think of finding new clients, it can also help you open your eyes to new possiblities. While you may be starting out small today, and just hoping to book a few weddings this year, realize there is a world of opportunity. Think of Vera Wang who started by designing a wedding dress, and now has a variety of products, including books and perfume. Or think of Martha Stewart, who started out catering, and now has her own TV show, radio shows, magazines, products, etc.

The potential is there; you just have to be open to possibilities.
