Why A Great Headline Is So Important

Some websites have it. Some don't.

But really, there is a huge difference between the two. If more businesses understood this one concept, online marketing as a whole would be a lot more efficient.

I'm talking about the power of a headline. A good headline will draw people in. It will make them want to take the next step, and read more into your site. They will scroll down your page, wanting to discover the answers you've enticed them with. And they'll want to click through to other pages, hoping to find more information that will ultimately lead to action - the sale!

Think of the home page of your website as the door to your store/office. Your job is to entice them to want to come in and browse. The more appealing your storefront, the better chance you have of making someone commit to come in and stay awhile. Just like a storefront, it has to have the key elements:

  • Clean look and design
  • Enticing copy
  • A reason to come in

If you approach a store, and it has a great name/logo banner clearly above the door, along with enticing signs and information posted on the front windows, aren't you more likely to go in? It captures your attention, and makes you want more information. Likewise with your website.

A headline is meant to entice visitors to want more information. It's meant to share one tiny piece of information, and build the desire for the visitor to take action. Want a few examples? I've found these great titles this week:

Learn to paint even if you've never held a paintbrush before.
When I got in my zone, my income grew by 37% in one month!
You can stop cold calling business prospects & battling voice mail - and make them chase you instead.

See how these headlines entice you to want more information? They set up a situation that you may have been in yourself. And they provide you with an outcome that may be appealing to you. Which makes you read further.

Does your website draw people in? Do you provide information, or are you actively promoting leads? There is a difference. If you would like your website to become an active part of your marketing click here
